+ What general protocols do I need to be aware of?

General Travel Protocols

  • As of August 9th, 2021, the CDC categorizes Aruba as a Level 4 country. The CDC recommends that you are fully vaccinated before traveling to Aruba.  This does not mean you are prohibited from traveling to Aruba if you are not fully vaccinated.  The CDC recommends you become vaccinated before traveling.
  • Passengers are required to bring and wear a face mask in the airport(s) and on the flight(s).
  • Food and drink service is limited during the flight. However, you’re welcome to bring your own snacks and soft drinks on board.
    • Eat before your flight: food and drink service on the flight is limited and airport restaurants might be closed.
    • Carry your own hand sanitizer: click here for TSA hand sanitizer allowances.
    • For more details on airline protocols, click here.
  • Recommendation vs. Requirement: The CDC provides recommendations which you can decide not to follow the recommendation, you will not be prevented from traveling. However, there are travel protocol requirements that must be followed in order to travel internationally.
+ Do I need to take a COVID-19 test in the US before departing for Aruba?

At this time, yes. Aruba requires you to get a negative test 1-3 days before traveling. The Aruban Government has very specific requirements for this test that you will be responsible for meeting. Please see the yellow dropdowns below referencing “Schedule COVID Test” and “Aruba ED Card Process” for more details.

Click here to see all the travel requirements and details listed by the Aruba Convention Bureau. We’ve distilled the primary requirements and added some additional tips based on Summit’s experience traveling to Aruba under these protocols in the dropdowns below.

+ Do I need to take a COVID-19 test before returning to the US?

At this time, yes. We have arranged that the test be provided for all AgriGold guests at the the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino. You will be provided with the required documentation to provide the airline to board your flight back to the United States.

On January 12, 2021, CDC announced an Order requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight.

+ Do I still need proof of a negative COVID-19 test if I already have the vaccine?

Yes, at this time all air passengers traveling to Aruba and the US, regardless of vaccination or antibody status, are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test.

+ Schedule COVID Test: 10 Days Prior Departure

Aruba Test for Entry – Timing

Schedule Appointment: 10 days prior to your arrival in Aruba, we recommend that you find a local facility to schedule an appointment for your COVID-19 test for entry into Aruba.

Appointment Time: Aruba is very specific about the acceptable appointment window for the COVID-19 PCR test. The test must be administered within 72 hours of your flight that departs for Aruba (unless you have a direct flight, this mean the time your connection departs). If the test is administered before that, Aruba will not accept the results.
Results Uploaded: Your negative results must be uploaded at least 12 hours before your flight departing for Aruba. We provide more details about the card process in the “ED Card Process” dropdown.

Due to the tight timing between your acceptable appointment time and result upload time, we recommend scheduling a COVID-19 PCR test that provides results either the next day or as quickly as possible. You might search for a local testing facility that offers “COVID-19 PCR test expedited for travel”.

Aruba Test for Entry – Results

Here are some tips for you to be aware of when scheduling your appointment. Aruba will confirm these requirements when you submit test results.

  • Name: Schedule your appointment with your first and last name as it appears on your passport. If the name on your COVID test doesn’t match your name on Aruba’s online ED from—it will be denied.
  • Date: Date the test was collected (test must be administered within 72 hours of your flight departing for Aruba (last leg of your arrival trip).
  • Results: Negative results uploaded as part of the ED card process at least 12 hours prior to arrival in Aruba.
  • Method:
    • Indicate “COVID-19”, “SARS-CoV-2” or “Coronavirus”
    • Obtained from a nasal swab specimen
    • Through amplified Molecular testing (for example a PCR test is accepted but an Antibody or Antigen test is not.)
    • Performed by a certified lab (at-home or self-administered tests cannot be accepted)

Click here for full details on Aruba’s COVID-19 test requirements.

The table below is on Aruba.com’s website and helps confirm the type of COVID PCR tests that are accepted, and the some of the others that are not.

+ What About Travel Insurance?

The trip through AgriGold does include* the required Aruba Visitor’s Insurance that protects you against incurred medical and non-medical expenses should you test positive for COVID-19 during your stay in Aruba. Aruba Visitor’s Insurance does not provide the scope of coverage that comes with traditional travel insurance.  We encourage you to review your options for purchasing your own travel insurance to supplement the provided Aruba Visitor’s Insurance.  We also encourage you to contact your health benefits provider regarding your medical insurance abroad.

If you wish to obtain traditional cancellation insurance protection, there are several companies who provide this insurance and their information can be obtained online. Coverage and payment of benefits, and documents required for claims vary between companies. We would strongly encourage to read and understand the terms and conditions or description of coverage limitations and claims payment procedures before purchasing any travel insurance.

We encourage you to review your options for purchasing your own travel insurance to supplement the provided Aruba Visitor’s Insurance. We also encourage you to contact your health benefits provider regarding your medical insurance abroad.

CDC International Travel Information

Things to know about Level 4:

The CDC recommends travelers avoid international travel to all “Level 4 – COVID, very high risk” countries (most countries, including the US, are level 4 as shown by the red countries in the map below). The CDC requires passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. A verifiable test result must be in the form of written documentation (paper or electronic copy) of a laboratory test result. The negative results must be presented to the airline prior to boarding. A negative test result must show test was done within the 3 days before the flight.

Click here to see the CDC’s Travel Notifications for Aruba.

Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

Airline Protocols

Airline Protocols:

According to the International Air Transport Association, while the risk of catching an infection on an aircraft is typically lower than in a shopping center or an office environment, there are simple measures you can take to further reduce the risk when traveling: wear a mask, clean your hands regularly and check-in online to minimize contact at the airport.

And important to know: nearly all planes today have very sophisticated air filters which catch 99.99% of particles, including viruses like COVID-19. The cabin air is also replaced with new fresh air from outside every two to three minutes. This means that what you breathe onboard is the same quality as in an operating room at a hospital.

Put it all together and flying remains one of the safest travel alternatives even during COVID-19.

Overview of Update Airline Policies for COVID-19:

Each airline has some variance in their current COVID-19 protocols. We’ve provided links for the protocols and policies for the 3 major commercial airlines.

The guidelines below reflect the major changes to airline policies and are generally consistent among all air lines. These policies are subject to change and updates will be reflected on this site.

+ General Airport/Airline Protocols
  • In the U.S. at check-in, passengers must confirm they have been free of COVID-19 symptoms and have not had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 ten (10) days prior to their departure day.
  • In Aruba at check-in, passengers must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 3 days of departure.
  • Passengers are required to bring and wear a face mask* in the airport(s) and on the flight(s).
  • Passengers can briefly remove masks to eat or drink.
  • It is possible that the seat next to you may be empty. However, the airline does not enforce a policy for empty seats during the flight.
  • Similar to hospital standards, HEPA filters on all mainline aircraft and most regional jets refresh the cabin air every two to four minutes.
  • Food and drink service is limited during the flight. However, you’re welcome to bring your own snacks and soft drinks on board.
    • Reminder: Airlines do not allow passengers to bring alcohol on flights.
    • Reminder: Liquid containers larger than 3.4 ounces are not allowed past airport security. If you plan to bring your own soft drinks on the flight, you will need to purchase them after you clear airport security.
    • Reminder: Passengers should be prepared for snacks, alcohol and food to be limited or unavailable for purchase during the flight.

*A face covering can be a mask or any secured cloth that covers your nose and mouth and fits snugly under the chin. Face coverings with exhaust valves or vents, or made with mesh or lace type fabric, will not be allowed.
